Being With Horses Classes

This is the temple of true relationship: where we stop making demands and learn to just be.

Discover the magic of being with horses! Come spend an intimate 2 hours with the horses and other animals at Mountain Horse School (including Rosie the mini pig, Vinnie the sheep, and the ducks and chickens). We will learn animal communication as well as how they think and feel in the world (through an exploration of body language and intuition) and an arsenal of of horsemanship skills including grooming, leading and other groundwork. These classes are split up into different age groups and are suitable for those with no horse experience or those with some familiarity who would like to expand their understanding and true relationship with animals, and deepen their own relaxation, awareness, and sense of wellbeing. Each class will be slightly different as we will work with what the animals and students are bringing to us in the moment- while still covering our learning objectives.

What are the benefits of being with horses and other animals in this way?

  • Mindfulness of the self in relation to other beings
  • Emotional awareness and regulation
  • Deactivation of the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight arousal system)
  • An respect for the sentience and autonomy of other beings
  • A felt connection with a life that is larger than screens
  • Increased resilience and heart coherence
  • Activated intuition and non verbal communication skills
  • A deep sense of connectedness and of being met deeply by another creature

What are people saying about these classes?

"This is the missing piece! I love horses, but I’m unsure around them. I go for a trail rides about once a year and even though I’m thrilled to take in nature this way, I’m a little nervous. Aren’t they following too close? He really really wants to eat grass, but I’m supposed to stop him? So that’s one reason I signed up—to feel more comfortable.

The second reason the Being with Horses Class appealed to me was the peaceful ad on Facebook: a close-up of Kera and Dublin on a snowy background. I thought, I want that!  The time I spent walking and talking with Kera and the animals was just that! Although I’m not ready to let Bea nibble my ears quite yet.

It was fascinating to observe the subtle changes in the horses as we slowly approached them, stopped, and then continued towards them.

Kera’s approach to being with horses and her other animals made a difference in the way I hang out with my own pets. Just two days later, my dog had puppies. I am more aware of Maggie’s body language and I think she appreciates the respect I show her.

I will return to this lovely farm with my animal-crazy son.  And the next time I ride, it will be here. Kera offers private lessons too. Yay!"
